The SM1030 is a digitally synthesized, wideband arbitrary function generator that provides high-quality signals from DC to 4MHz. The SM series function generators occupy one IBM compatible XT/AT PC expansion slot and combine high performance of standalone generators with the convience of personal computers.

A narrowband output provides adjustable output levels from 0 to 16 volts p-p into an open circuit or 0-8 volts p-p into 600? with frequencies up to 300KHz. A wideband output provides a fixed, 4 volt output at higher frequencies. The SM1020 and SM1030 have 12 bits of vertical resolution.

With a sample rate of 16 MegaSamples / Sec. and a slew rate of 40 volts per microsecond, the SM1030 offers low-noise output frequencies with 0.005% accuracy. To expand the capabilities of the SM1030, two cards can be linked together. Use an expansion connector to link the SM1005, SM1020 to another SM1030 and provide full control over repetition rate, precision trigger delay and duty cycle of waveforms. The SM1010 is similar to the SM1030 but with 8-bit vertical resolution and no wideband output.

The SM1020 is an enhanced version of the SM1010, providing 12-bit vertical resolution and an additional pulse generator for pulse widths from 100 nSec to 100 Sec. The pulse generator section of the SM1020 is available as the standalone SM1005.

SM1020

The SM1020 Function/Pulse generator cards can be configured so that multiple cards can operate together to provide complex waveform. Up to 32 SM10X0 may be daisy chained. Working in this master-slave configuration, the following are examples of signals that can be generated:

  • Two-tone signals
  • Amplitude modulation
  • FSK
  • Trigger delay
  • Quadrature signals

SM1020 Virtual Panel

The SM1000 series are supplied with software drivers to support development environments such as: Microsoft Visual C++, Borland C, ATEasy, Microsoft Visual Basic, Borland Pascal, Borland Delphi, and more. A virtual panel is provided for standalone applications and debug mode.

  • 32-bit MS-Windows DLL - to be used with a WIN32 application running under Windows 95 and Windows NT.
  • 16-bit MS-Windows DLL (Dynamic Link Library) - to be used with a 16-bit Windows application running under Windows 3.1.
  • DOS static libraries - Microsoft format and Borland format - used by DOS applications compiled with Microsoft or Borland development tools.

This example shows the SM1020 generating a burst of 4 square waves. It is used to measure the response of an amplifier.

  • Set the wave shape to square wave
  • Set the frequency and amplitude
  • Set the burst counter
  • Connect the generator to the amplifier input
    Set the scope parameters
  • Connect the scope to the amplifier output
  • Set the trigger mode and trigger the generator
  • Take the measurement

ATEasy Example

The SM1000 Series Function/Pulse generator cards can be configured so that a pair of them operate together to perform more complex operations. Up to 32 may be daisy chained. Working in this master-slave configuration, the following signals can be generated:
