The PCM308 PCMCIA data acquisition card provides 4 differential or 8 single-ended analog input channels, expandable to 256 with input expansion adapters. Its bipolar input range extends from ±1.25V to ±10V. Programmable gains are in steps of 1, 2, 4 and 8. The PCM308 supports sampling rates of up to 100 kS/sec at 16-bit resolution.

Equipped with a 4K Data FIFO, the PCM308 can achieve full speed data acquisition under Windows. It also has a 2048 entry Scan FIFO which supports full speed random order channel scanning and gain selection. Compared with other manufacturers' cards providing smaller FIFOs or no FIFOs, the PCM308 significantly reduces CPU overhead.

The PCM308 has a 16-bit timer/counter with auto-reload and readout latch that provides independent timing for the analog output channels, and operates with internal or external clock source and gate controls. The counter/timer can be used to count external TTL events at a rate of up to 5MHz. The card also features a 24-bit pacer clock (programmable by a divisor of eight or a prescaler of 64) that can be used with an external clock source. With the 5MHz internal clock source, the pacer clock can generate sampling rates precise from .01 S/sec to 100 kS/sec. The PCM308 also has eight TTL compatible digital I/O channels, each of which can be used for control or monitoring.

The DaqSuite CD is included with the card. It contains DAQDRIVE, a software driver supporting various programming languages including Microsoft C/C++, Borland C/C++, QuickBasic, Turbo PASCAL, and VisualBasic. The CD also includes drivers which interface to WINview, WINview Plus, TestPoint, DasyLab, and LabView. A PCMCIA client driver is provided for use with DOS and Windows 3.1. Programming languages are supported under Windows 95/98/NT and Windows 2000/XP, while Windows 95/98/ME are supported by WINview, WINview Plus and TestPoint.

The pacer clock is actually a 24-bit auto-reload frequency divider. It contains a 24-bit divisor register, a 24-bit counter, an internal clock prescaler and a clock source multiplexer, as shown in the diagram below:
